re: Hey, Stats Master

No real luck so far. It's a documentation zoo. Footnotes lead to papers that have their own footnotes, and this goes three or four levels deep. I tell you what, nobody can puke paper like Congressmen.

There are countless references online to the "1,000 subpoenas during Clinton." A lot of people blur the terminology and we wind up with "1,000 subpoenas ON Clinton," when in point of fact the actual number refers to subpoenas issued during the Clinton administration. A vast majority of them seem to be subpoenas for documents.

Not surprisingly, most of the discussions seem to assume history began in 1995.

I would like to find out more about the number of oversight investigations on Clinton or Democrats before the Republicans took power. I'd also like to find out the history of the Committee in the Reagan administration, including how many subpoenas were issued during, for example, Iran-Contra. Waxman goes to great lengths about how subpoenas under Democrats were issued "responsibly," but actual numbers never seem to come up.

Someone else is welcome to run with this ball.
