Which is a shame because there's some damn good stories out there. Many are intimidated by the Science. They don't understand it and therefore, discount the stories.

Notable exceptions are futuristic tales. And robots. Everybody loves robots. Oh and your annual disaster movie, i.e. Armageddon. I was not that impressed with Armageddon. I think Earth would have been a goner.
