Talk about a propaganda, anti-American hit piece.
Getting into the lies and distortions and history rewriting would be a full time job. The most obvious is the blatant attack on individualism as evil.
Neoconservatives are the fictional boogieman. Rumsfeld, Cheney and Wolfowitz and Reagan are the demons in this collectivist, anti-American hit-piece.
The fall of the USSR is forgotten. Human freedom is an undesirable trait that must be replaced with "controlling individuals". America is the "bad influence" on the world, because it promotes human "selfishness".
That collectivist, "government IS god" BS went out of town the first time the Reds espoused it in labor unions, propaganda posters and anti-western, anti-capitalist rhetoric spread in anti-American socialist universities throughout most of the twentieth century.
I'm not really surprised that Raoul buys into it, but Art these are the same folks who would say the time you spend on music, flying, etcetera we're just manifestations of your selfishness and evil.
You shouldn't be allowed to pursue that stuff. You should obey your masters and limit your selfish indidualism and become an obedient slave - like most Europeans are.
In Europe there exists a sort of socialist slave society. They live like caged animals in apartments, are completely dependant upon public transit to get anywhere over a few blocks from their apartment, are provided basic healthcare, 4 weeks vacation per year and live in a society where smiling in public is frowned upon.
Yes, I've actually had someone apologize for smiling. Life is not for laughter in Europe. It is a grim, serious, efficient affair where intellectualism is cherished and paraded in lieu of material possessions.
Yes, they may not have the latest gadgets, but they are trained to be critical of everyone and everything. They are "bitchy" every day of their lives. They insult the maids, the service, complaining is expected. It is a perverted society wherein complaint and unhappiness shows others how "sophisticated" you are.
Being critical of America is par for the course. Nothing has changed. In the fifties Europeans grew up thankful of the Marshall Plan and America's generosity - and at the same time thought Americans were a bit stupid for being so charitable. So even while accepting our charity, they managed to feel superior all the while.
America is a thorn in the collectivists side. Our success in bringing down the Soviet Union was an anathema. Our success in turning China into a capitalist empire is also frustrating them. They want and NEED to create a new generation of unhappy, poor folks who blame "individualism" and America for all that is wrong in the world.
They want to control folks Art. That's the bottom line.
If you believe submission is good, then that will be ok by you. But for those who still believe the rights of the individual supercede the rights of the masses - this movie is the most blatant collectivist propaganda hit-piece since Karl Marx waxed poetic about collectivism.
I could go on and on...but not enough time for that.
