re: Boy will this create some intense debate

Looks like some people at the BBC have read some of: "The Looming Tower". But I would recommend the people simply read the book, rather trying to get any understanding from this garbled secondhand version.

And it appears that the BBC understands America generally about as well as Qutb understood America- and the film suggests that Qutb crowd were some sort of reasonable thinkers, but this is like saying the Heaven's Gate idiot [Marshall Applewhite] was an intellectual genius.

I also like how it suggest that the CIA basically invents torture for Egypt. And depicts the Soviets as if it's only fault perhaps is it's too gentle and kind to survive in this harsh world- with any subversive element purported to belonging to the Soviets as actually a complete fiction invented by the neocons. [The Soviets were busying flying kites]
Now, assuming the CIA is as described: completely corrupted element raging around world, the film then switches and depicts this same CIA with sane rational people [who btw just lost Iran], who are "assaulted" by a few kooks [the neocons] and who somehow manage to get Reagan's ear [I suppose because Reagan is an idiot]. And of course, we must remember that the Soviets were already in the dust bin of history before Reagan got into office [presumably Nixon thru Carter and geniuses at the CIA were already facing a non-existent threat from Soviets].

So in general we are suppose believe that neocon invented a myth that has the purpose to create fear [yet two planes fly into WTC, pentagon, and one airliner fails in it's planned attack of capitol. With earlier terrorists attacks on a few embassies using *huge* bombs, and US ship is attacked by boat loaded with explosive].
[note, it doesn't even try explain why neocons didn't simply continue depicting the non-threating "Soviets" as a continuing threat- or if they needed to switch targets for some reason, why not say, China? Or Mexico? Columbia and Venezula?]

Meanwhile this film uses a menacing soundtrack, and shows pictures of violence, and disjointed images [among them a weird scene of some guy pouring red paint or blood on a globe] and throughout weaves series half-truth, lies, and misrepresentation [as any propaganda piece does]. Tries to depict neocons and terrorists having similar in "philosophy". Set up the scene showing a neocon with someone just prior disputing what they will say and then follow with more "proof" the neocon is a nutter. But doesn't do this with the terrorist or those that sympathize to terrorism. But instead shows scenes that could support a terrorist to have idea that murdering innocent people is good thing, because they aren't really Muslims or they deserve it because they are evil.
