I think that high range is over-rated.
Most people drive their cars to and from work, with a stop at the grocery store or the kid's daycare in between.
They don't need a 500 mile range. A 100 mile range would be plenty.
For that family vacation they could rent a different car, fly, take a train, hitch-up a generator that turns their all electric into a hybrid, etc...
Whats missing is the cost. Electrics are to expensive up front.
