Eloquent, but not as earth shaking as he and you are implying

McKenna says that science is the process we've been using for the past
400 years but it can't answer everything and we are now heading to a
new area of awareness.

I generally agree with this, though he's hardly the first one to say such
things, though usually not with the UFO phenomenon included.

And he seems to be bashing a little bit harder on science than it deserves.
After all, science is a tool, not an entity either good or evil. Without science
and technology our civilization would not be as prosperous as it is and we
probably wouldn't be having this conversation. You can produce the good
and bad about a lot of things, people, and institutions. Science has no
monopoly on that.

Trashing science for some nebulous other way of thinking isn't the best
way to take society from one way to another.

While I always appreciate anyone who thinks outside the box - and the
idea of mushrooms as alien spores sending "messages" to the brains of
those who ingest them is right up and out there - I hope he realized
that his ideas are just that without more evidence, ideas.

BTW, mushrooms have the same DNA as all other life on Earth, so either
we all came from another planet with the mushrooms or mushrooms are
just one of the incredible variety of organisms native to this planet.

My mind is far more open to ideas than you might think, so while I
appreciate your attempts to "enlighten" me, don't also assume I am
some rigid rationalist as Jody seemed to think a while back. I am
just a bit more cautious about what happens and why than most,
it would seem. And if you study astronomy and physics, you will find
a lot of amazing, mind-bending things that science has found over
the years that are just as reality-defying and incredible as what
folks like McKenna push as well.
