re: Artilects might say...

I think they will probably decide very quickly there is a whole Universe out
there to explore and comprehend and head off into it.

Of course they might also turn the whole Sol system into a Dyson Shell,
which if they make the interior livable for us will give us the equivalent
of 5 billion Earths to play with.

Or they might just download our minds into their matrix to save resources.

SF films that have the AI machines trying to wipe us out as competition
strike as for the same reasons they make most aliens into conquering
bad guys - cause story plot makers think there always has to be some
kind of conflict to keep things interesting, not necessarily explore the
way such scenarios might really play out.

We fear the unknown. Naturally we look at the negative aspects
of the unknown out of instinct and practicality. We can sense big
changes coming brought on by our own advancing technology. But
unlike mindless nuclear weapons or genetic engineering, the AI
machines we may make will be able to make decisions for themselves,
at much faster and larger rates than we. That's what many people
fear, fueled by fictional creations like HAL 9000 and Skynet. But
they were made that way for entertainment purposes. The reality
may be something entirely different. But I do think that is our next
step in evolution, not humans just getting bigger heads and smaller
bodies.
