Moving from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Vista

Hello. I recently purchased a desktop which came with Vista Home Premium, a 32 bit program. It was some fear and trepidation I did so, but I did. After a while I figured out that the disk that came with the computer would allow me to reload the OS without all the junkware. The CPU is a "Core 2 quad". (I also got a 24" WUXGA monitor. What a difference from my 8-year-old Compaq 17" CRT.)

By the way, the Vista is operating, so far, very well. All the drivers are there and except for one minor inconvenience, having to work around a bit to get my old, cheap scanner to scan, it's been flawless. I don't have a lot of demands on it, though. My super-whiz-bang video card was a pain in the arf regarding sound, but that's another story.

Anyway, I went nuts and purchased a laptop also, my first. The CPU is an AMD 64 Turion X 2. An HP, it came with Vista Home Premium, but NO disks. And HP does not have 64-bit versions of Vista to replace this.

I'd like to load the 64-bit versions of the Vista without purchasing the programs again. I realize the 64-bit versions in effect re-format the HDs, but that's no loss right now.

I've emailed Microsoft several times with queries, but no answer, at least so far.

Any thoughts on it?

Thanks.
