Did you notice that the reaction at the hearings was highly partisan? All the Democrats attacked the accused athletes, while the Republicans attacked the witnesses against them.
Let me speculate. Pro sports is big business, with lots of collateral businesses that will be hurt if the public gets disenchanted, media, advertising, products, the teams and leagues...even the developers who build stadiums with public funds.
