"Intelligence"

I'm afraid I've moved away from worrying about Drake's Equation, too. It's too much to believe that Earth is the only planet bearing life similar to ours. And I believe "intelligence" has evolved previously on Earth.

As far as intelligence goes, we as a species are much closer to acknowledging other species are more intelligent than we believed. It's simply that their means of communication, and ours of receiving that communication, are different. And they haven't had the physical tools to allow much change.

However, birds are bright. Very bright. I've met some which were OK, a bit smarter than your even well-trained dog, and read about and seen others which were outstanding. And they are derived from dinosaurs.

I suspect dinosaurs would have evolved an intelligent variety something on the order of Man, but by my standards, and even Star Wars standards, uglier. (And I'm sure I would look like a filet mignon to them.) But I'm not seeing any reason to believe they weren't on the way. They didn't have technology, yet, but neither did pre-humans until the very last second of history.

I believe that life evolves toward intelligence if the creatures are allowed go multicellular and to survive on land long enough.
