But they *were* jerks.

The anti-social small car lovers were either wanna-be race car drivers, who didn't know how to drive, like James Dean or they were folks who bought into the commie Hidden Persuaders Vance Packard stuff that was designed to divide and conquer America.

The motor magazines were seeing a lot of advertising dollars pushing small cars.

The Corvair was a unique car. I almost bought one, back in the mid-eighties and was able to test drive one still in pretty nice shape. Sure the car was unsafe - all smaller cars are. Ralph Nader made a name going after American cars, only to help flood the USA with more deadly foreign contraptions that killed many more folks over time.

And the government with its pollution controls and fuel CAFE standards eventually did in the US car and have almost finished off our auto industry.

Unfortunately, America deserves what it gets.

One only earns what one earns.
