In a couple of billion years, the Moon and Earth will have settled into the day = month situation you describe, with the Moon a lot farther away. The length of both the month and the day will be something under 50 current days.
Nothing we can do to the Moon, short of maybe punching Ceres into it at top speed, would make a significant change in either its orbit or its period of rotation.
