About 12 years ago I was in Africa sitting on a bluff eating lunch right above where Lucy was found. There were brightly colored birds all around, I don't know why they were so bright, and I had a sense I could almost talk to her. My Western mind just wouldn't open enough, was too limited, though I thought I was close.
I asked if I came back and sat long enough if we could talk, a ridiculous question which seemed reasonable at that moment. I don't know who I asked, and neither do I know what language we'd speak. That was irrelevant.
I couldn't leave the spot or experience until almost dragged away by my companions, and still had to stop and take a picture of a dry curved creek bed, tree growing on a 4-foot high bank, where I could imagine Lucy and her family walking.
Pure fantasy, of course, and to me real in a very personal sense.
And you're right, the "world" is a creation of our perception. Period.
