The whole gun debate is one where a little common sense could probably go a long way in solving the problem. I think by tradition and precedent and law and right we are entitled to own firearms. I also believe that in some circumstances, and among some people, certain types of firearms and ammunition should be forbidden.
The problems is that both sides of this debate have adopted an intransigent, all-or-nothing stand that leads in both cases to contradictions and absurdities.
I don't want to live in a country where I can't shoot a man who is breaking into my house. But I don't think that gives me the right to own a military assault rifle equipped with ammunition designed to defeat police armor and the surgeon's skill. And I don't think anything the founding fathers said has anything to do with this issue.
