Transcend to me means to surpass. For me he is saying that if we *surpass* our egos...in essence, let go of our egos, then spirituality is the next step.
Initially he was speaking of *content* from the LSD perspective. That LSD allows a flood of information (content) good and bad. He says that this step is not required. The content (lessons/experiences) that emerge from LSD usage is too fragile and easily can turn to from ecstasy to agony.
I believe he is saying that drugs are indeed a fact of life. If someone chooses that route, be as educated as possible about the decision.
