Offsets

Let's say Ronnie Poopus has a carbon footprint of 10 and Jenny Gonegreen has a carbon footprint of -10. They offset each other for a net carbon footprint of 0. In business, they're actually buying credits, so they can foul the air, from businesses who don't foul the air.
