Demonizing fringe groups is a universal human trait. I don't know what happened in there, some of it certainly didn't fit our cultural norms. I've read a number of books on Mormons and their offshoots. Not good. However, I think the Texas authorities will barrage us with justifications for what was in part completely unjustifiable.

Separating mothers from small children and throwing those small children into institutional environments is unpardonable. Absolutely. Anyone who says those mothers were cruel to their children are wrong, and if they were abused by others they need their mothers.

Whenever a governmental authority wants to move public opinion they cite child abuse. Unplugging incubators is just the most notorious example and Congress, the media and public "bought" it. And I'll bet some still do.

Kids break bones, I certainly did. And I'm not saying that wasn't a complete kid torturing machine in there. I am saying that whatever happened to those kids the State of Texas is compounding. And we'll never know the entire truth.
