I don't entirely agree. In civilized society we do have a duty to protect innocents from abuse. That definition of abuse is the sticky point where we don't always agree. Societal norms also change. In the 1800s nobody thought anything of the notion that blacks weren't entirely human. It was the societal norm. Luckily we've grown out of that backwater notion. Times have changed, while it used to be ok and even common to marry off 14 or 15 year olds, its no longer ok to do so. The laws we as a society have created prevent this in all but exceptional cases. As we have shifted away from an agrarian society it was natural to end the practice of teenage marriages as well as arranged marriages. Teenagers today are nowhere close to emotionally mature enough to be married and take on adult responsibilities. In the 1800s and earlier I think they likely were more suited to adult responsibilities at a younger age. Whether that also applies to the FLDS being a closed agrarian society, I don't have the data to answer, however I think its best to err on the side of caution and end abusive situations even to the expense of some tolerance.
