You seem to have conveniently forgotten that the newly-elected Democrats spent most of 2007 trying to kneecap Petraeus and shut the entire surge effort down. In fact, they frigging RAN on that platform.

The surge and the new counterinsurgency approach was shoved through by the administration against enormous opposition. The Democrats picked their side a long time ago. You really think they're going to fool anyone by changing team uniforms now?
