Frankenstein's monsters.

Businessmen are people. They have rights and responsibilities. Some are good and some bad. Some are victimizers and some are victims.

Businesses are not people. They are souless, mindless entities with needs and behavior all their own, and they care as much about people as whales do about the krill they feed on.

Businesses used to be owned and run by businessmen, the capitalists, entrepreneurs and hommes d'affaires you have so much admiration for. But increasingly, businesses are now collectively owned (there's that word again) and they are run by mere employees, professional managers, who have little choice but to carry out their instructions IN SERVICE to their firms. They do not set policy, they execute policy set by faceless accountants and distant financiers in an abstract world of money and numbers that does not even know we exist.

Finance capitalism has nothing to do with the world of market-driven individual entrepreneurship you champion as your model of society. In fact, the latter is being threatened by the former. Capital goes out and gobbles up markets and businesses and businessmen just like it consumes workers and investors and consumers, and when they are used up, it simply goes somewhere else and sucks that dry. And when it screws up and fails, it drags down large sections of the society, both humans and businesses, with it. And until you understand that, we are condemned to dance around the maypole forever.
