Heavy industry, construction and mining, in fact, the workplace in general, can be a very dangerous place. One of the things America can be proud of is the way these deaths and injuries have been minimized over the years. A comparison with other countries who have not made the effort to protect their workers (think of Chinese coal mining, for example) can be quite sobering.
