First there's the definition of consciousness.....not clear....
Then, can we really transfer who we are (not what we are) into a machine?
We might copy ourselves, perhaps!! But the original "me" won't be interrupted!!!
It's like the VHS videocassettes ! They're still there even after transfer of their content into DVDs.
We might copy ourselves into a machine BUT it won't be us, living forever!!! We will grow old and die like everyone else.
Besides, could we even accept having a copy of ourselves while we cannot benefit from it ?
If we enhance our brain and body with chips that progressively share (and store) our experience, can it all be later used in a machine and be considered us?
For that, we need to understand what consciousness is, before.
But it won't be us.

Uploading is copying, not transfering
The whole thread (29 posts)
- IEEE Spectrum Articles on "The Singularity"
- Rodney Brooks, MIT, discusses the future, 2007
- Uploading is copying, not transfering
- artilects, etc.
- I wish they would hurry
