Nope. Profiling is a science.
They have studied the various types of personalities who commit certain types of crimes. They have the basis from that. Add a lot of psychology & you have profiling. It may be an educated "guess" but it's got the science behind it and if it didn't work, they wouldn't still be using it.
I've had an innate ability all my life to "read" people. Body language, voice intonation, all the physical things tell you something about whether a person is lying or not, what their emotional state is, etc. Also, there is empathy. I have always been able to connect to another person's emotions which can be disconcerting.
