...that people who live with books, love them, who have devoted their professional lives to cataloguing and preserving the knowledge and culture of the race and to protecting the sanctity and dignity of our literature and the record of our cultural heritage don't like the kind of books you like?
Well, frankly, I'm not surprised.
That seems to be a problem, isn't it? Why is it that all the scholarly castes, those who since the Middle Ages have assumed the task of preserving and transmitting the knowledge and accomplishments of Western Man, seem to have a natural antipathy and disdain for your philosophies? At least, you would think they do the way you and your partisans constantly harp on it. Intellectuals, scholars, writers, professors, academics and artists all seem to have it in for you, this is especially puzzling since these chattering classes are notorious for their disagreements and conflicts, why they should arrive at such near unanymity in condemning your case is astonishing.
Well there are a variety of explanations for this.
1) You simply have convinced yourself of this alleged hostility because it makes the failure of your philosophies to gain instant acceptance and implementation more palatable, and it allows their failure in both the marketplace of ideas and the world of practical politics and economics to be more easily explained away.
2) There is simply something about your philosophy that invokes instant revulsion and fear among people of an analytical or intellectual bent. Perhaps it reminds them of similar movements in the past who were known for their absolutist thought and rigid censorship of apostasy. Torquemada, Stalin and Hitler immediately come to mind.
3) There is an evil conspiracy that has somehow perverted the majority of scholars, teachers and thinkers of the world and turned them against you and your ideas . In fact, I believe your religious allies already feel they have identified the origin of this conspiracy: Satan, although there are the usual secular suspects too, like the Communists.
As a liberal and a moderate, and a card-carrying effete eastern establishment intellectual (who can't park his bicycle straight when he gets to the campus) I believe the final explanation is probably a separate-but-equal combination of these three.
