I'm glad to hear it. Then you probably know how bitter he was about folks who hold your same inflexible attitudes towards the possibility of a steady state universe. Bitter doesn't begin to describe it. He was ----ed.
Hoyle & Chandra Wickramasinghe his latter day partner in panspermia theories and papers lost a lot of credibility with the general scientific community due to the same and because Hoyle had authored a number of sci-fi novels his credibility was further eroded with the scientific community back in the fifties and sixties. (Who were a bit envious of the revenues generated above the normal research scientist.) When background radiation appeared consistent some thought this was an obvious telltale of a big bang and steady state was quickly dropped like a beauty-challenged blind date.
Please feel free to humiliate me on any board. It's probably a good idea to start it on flame/ off-topic so it doesn't vandalize the space board. No need in giving Nick or the other mods a headache.
