I can remember the authorization for war on Iraq. That was a stampede. Bush, Rice, Cheney and Rumsfeld said over and over that there was no time to waste attacking Iraq, that a disaster was imminent, crop dusters flown off merchant freighters with biological weapons, the mushroom cloud, etc., and so on.

These folks don't have a great track record. How long ago was Bush saying this was a little bump in the road? Bernanke saying that the economy was fundamentally sound? Paulson saying there was no recession happening or in the offing?

And now - $700 billion MORE into their hands? After all the money that has been printed already, after the $1 trillion for Freddie and Fannie? And don't think about it, no time, gotta hurry, they need their money, if rich people get poor that's just that many more poor people and that's not good, oh please please please.

The system may collapse. If it does it will take some very unpleasant people with it.
