We have a True Believer around here who is connected to many neocon blogs. There is an alternate reality over there and it's only fair to state that anyone immersed in those blogs would sincerely believe in what they believe.

You may remember when this True Believer said that the Vietnamese war was fought to limit Soviet communism in Southeast Asia. His view is that Soviet expansionism was the cause of the war and what the US sought to prevent.

I believe he said that the US bled the USSR dry before pulling out or words to that effect. How that would have been done I don't know. All the Soviets did was divert a bit of their lower-tech military production to the area. America was devoting significant assets. It was a bit like a man fighting a pack of dogs. The man fighting is wholly involved, but the people feeding the dogs are finding it an easier time. I know he didn't answer the observation that after the US lost the Soviets didn't expand into the area.

While the Soviets supplied materiel so did the Chinese. Both used green tracers. I think purple tracers indicated the Eastern Europeans did, also, though that would have been through the Soviet Union.

Anyway, there are True Believers out there who sincerely believe that war was about the US and the Soviets, and we contributed to their collapse by wearing 'em out.
