It seems to me that the theory does not predict that there was any sort of beginning to our universe (big bang/big bounce whatever). Instead the theorists use the same observations and other theory that implies that there was such an event. This theory gives you tools to look at that event differently and lets you theorize about pre-event conditions. In other words, if there are still any steady-staters out there, this theory and their theory could both exist in the same universe.
