Of course oversight it going to be a problem. Government regulation often ends up with foxes guarding the chicken coop. That's how we got the Fannie Mae fiasco.
Free market competition works (ideally) because if you're a business, there's almost always a competitor out there who really doesn't have your best interests at heart. In practice, of course, this gets a little more complicated (trusts, collusion, etc.)
Same with politics. The theoretical plus of a two-party system is that each one has a motive to catch the other one in wrongdoing. The way it's been winding up lately is that both sides bury their noses in the trough, and the only fight is over who gets the best stuff in the trough by being the Party in Power.
We need a political "trustbuster."
Here's my Idea for the Week: Forcibly break up the Democrats and Republicans into about five little parties each!
