Look at the broader picture.

Look at the past century, and the totalitarian and authoritarian governments that actually HAVE come into existence. Look at where nations obliterated large segments of their own populations, wrecked economies, and had to actually wall off parts of their own nations to keep people from leaving.

How many of these were instigated by "businessmen?"

Shouldn't at least PART of this apprehension for our future be reserved for people and groups who share the collectivist philosophies that generated these societies? It's like living in a forest full of bears, and sweating bullets over a possible tiger attack.

It's weird. A lot of people are almost schizoid about this kind of thing. They have a terror of the government controlling some aspects of our lives, but welcome, and even demand, government control of other aspects.

I've noticed a general trend in these opinions though. To put it simply, a lot of people seem quite happy with a government that will tell OTHER people what to do.

Deep down, where even they don't know it, I think most people on this planet believe that the ideal form of government is an absolute dictator who thinks exactly the way they do.
