Reading some of the other posts bring these sanctions to mind. These sanctions are touted to "get Castro", just as the sanctions on Iraq were supposed to "get Saddam".

Two things about sanctions. One, they do not "get" the leader. The Castros are doing just fine under the sanctions.

Two, they cause untold suffering for the people of the Cuba.

The Cuban sanctions are enthusiastically supported by Cuban-Americans. And all they do is affect the people of Cuba terribly. Those sanctions are a bit like strafing a school, hoping to "get" the principal even while knowing he is safe in a bunker and the kids are getting shot.

Why would Cuban-Americans want to cause their Cuban bretheren so much grief? There's an obvious reason, but that's a bit ugly.
