and my peeve with them is based solely on their goals. While they do help an enormous amount of people that are down and out and I can commend them for that, their help comes with a price - to be preached to.
Can you imagine how I'd be perceived if I opened an atheistic charitable organization that had as its goal to give aid to the helpless and homeless but require them to sit through lectures about how ridiculous religion is and how they should denounce any idea of God and the absurd stories of the Bible?
I'd be run out of town on a rail. There would be editorials in all the newspapers decrying my methods and calling me an agent of Satan. I'd probably seriously have to worry about my safety. You think Target would have a cow if I showed up at their door asking to put up my own "bell-ringer". I wouldn't be welcome at 99% of businesses.
I believe giving to charities should be a private function and I resent anyone in a public setting in your face with their hand out. In a way it's a form of extortion since they're counting on the the automatic or perceived judgment of others around you if you ignore them.

- Everyone on the planet should work a soup kitchen on a holiday at least once.
- And eat in one. If not a soup kitchen, per se, a restaurant geared toward skid row.
- I support the SA.
