It's considered old fart music even in contemporary Cuba and Miami. But it suits me (no smartass comments, please!). It comes from the same era as American Ragtime, and some musicologists believe the Ragtime was influenced by the danzón in turn-of-the-century New Orleans when Cuban immigrants flocked to that city. It is also rumored to have strongly contributed to the Argentine Tango, although they would never admit that.
No offense, but your guanajo (Cuban dialect for "pavo") sounds positively ghastly. Peanuts and chile with fowl? Ewwwww!. And BTW, did you know "relajo" is Cuban slang for "off-color joke"?
Isn't the term "Hispanic" dreadfully inadequate and limiting? I suppose we all look and sound the same to them.
