Peanuts and chili peppers
An interesting point about peanuts and chili peppers is of course that these plants are native to the Americas and were unknown in the pre-Columbian Europe. Most aspects of the prior Indian cultures have been completed assimilated in modern day El Salvador (nowhere in the country does anyone speak the old indigenous languanges for instance, just Spanish) but the Pipil and other pre-Columbian cultures passed on a strong culinary tradition, and the seemingly bizarre (but delicious!) way we cook our turkeys no doubt owes much to their legacy....
