A fellow I worked with on a recent contract is from Pakistan and has a great deal to say about how the US is handling things there, namely that we get it wrong every chance we get.
According to him, Al-Qaeda is a deeply interwoven part of Pakistani society...they have families and homes and jobs there. Even surgical military operations to carefully extract specific individuals will not only alienate other Pakistanis, but will also be met with resistance. Certainly lobbing missiles in to destroy homes and neighborhoods is an insane means of trying to deal with a complex matter.
