Shoe on the other foot?

As an atheist I have no desire to put up posters and signs professing my point of view but I can't help but enjoy somewhat watching people of religion feel that little tinge of discomfort I've gotten numerous times in my life when I've had someone else's views shoved into my face or interjected into my local politics.

What they put up was hardly the "Piss Christ" for crying out loud and you comparing the two actually weakened your message. What the FFRF did was simply to give all those so intent on blasting their Christian dominance during this season a little taste of their own medicine and, if it caused some awareness to that bullying, then just maybe it's a good thing.

My guess is the FFRF doesn't want any religious or philosophical displays at all at the state capitol or any governmental entity. That's how the system is supposed to work. Maybe instead of attacking them for participating and getting a little equal time, we should be instead questioning why the state government feels the need to have any displays at all? What does that have to do with the tasks they've been designed for? Aren't there plenty of other non-governmental but very public places that have space for such grandstanding?

The answer is of course that many Christians have this insane inferiority or persecution complex despite clear evidence that they clearly control the religious power and a huge portion of the dialog in this country. My own guess is that many people today have huge doubts about their own faith given the absurdity of some of the claims and the increased knowledge of history, science, and the universe and that pushing out the symbolism is a way of avoiding and masking that confusion. If I scream things loud enough, put up little plaster nativity scenes all over the landscape, and blast my devotional music over mall speakers, just maybe those doubts don't matter or nobody will notice.

Rob, thanks for sharing this story. If you were intent on providing outrage, it probably backfired because I'll be walking around today with a little shit eatin grin knowing that some folks in Washington will be forced to use their brains a bit this holiday season.
