re: Shoe on the other foot?

Your post and Buck’s were the type I expect here. At least yours involved explaining your views. If you don’t mind, I’d like some clarification.

I don’t think you hate anyone Art but Most here (at least the most vocal) display a range of reactions to Christian dogma. Usually just mild dislike but in some cases- venom dripping contempt.

I think I know the answer to this but is it a distaste for Christianity or simply, a dislike of Christians? After all, you don’t talk to many Buddhist haters. But I guess you don’t see much in the way of Buddhist hypocrisy in the news either.

Where did your negative view of Christianity start? Were you taught there was no God when you were a child? In other words did you have faith in something else before you became an atheist?

A few points:

-little tinge of discomfort I've gotten numerous times in my life when I've had someone else's views shoved into my face or interjected into my local politics.

-all those so intent on blasting their Christian dominance

I’ve never felt that discomfort. I haven’t had Christianity “shoved into my face”- other than the Mormons coming to my door but they are not pushy and generally very pleasant. It’s obvious you and Buck have had different experiences and if you wouldn’t mind, would you share one or two?

Maybe instead of attacking them for participating and getting a little equal time, we should be instead questioning why the state government feels the need to have any displays at all?

Your point about displays on government property is spot on.

One thing though, my post was in no way an attack on the FFRF. My objection was not that they were in opposition to religion but the way they said it. It was less than civil. It was directed toward Christians and their display. It was arrogant because they presented their position as fact to “disprove” or nullify the Christian belief. No one can prove that there is no God anymore than any religion can prove there is. The fact that you can’t prove a negative is no excuse to assume authority.
