Night shift
I worked inside a factory, so it wasn't the same as working outside, but there was nothing like hopping on my bike in the cold morning and watching the sun rise on the ride home after a 12-hour shift.
There's something about seeing the sun come up that uplifts a very old part of the human soul. We are not a nocturnal species, and have never felt really comfortable at night.
I wonder if even chimps and other primates watch sunrises with the same happiness. Who would know? The naturalists are still sleeping.
It's nice that we've evolved enough civilization that sunsets and night are now beautiful things. Most of the time.
