"If one judges Conservatives by their actions and not the words, the way the rest of the world is judged, their love of huge government is apparent. Their intrusion into the privacy of the population and their negation of civil rights are examples of how individual rights are limited by governmental intrusions."
You mean Republicans. Though I suppose compassionate conservative, or liberal conservatives, or religious conservative, RINOs, and/or neocons, might tend to favor bigger govt- though practically any politician that goes to Washington seems to go in that direction.
Of course, if the public is demanding the govt "do more" one can't really blame the politicians. Politicians rarely have any courage or convictions of any kind- these traits are simply not generally rewarded.
Though hasn't really been an major aspect of liberals to want bigger govt- though it is something in particular desired by Lefties- not because they think it will "work" but they believe it will eventually crash. And THEN out of the chaos "the beautiful things" are suppose to happen- though of course, this hasn't actually happened anywhere, but why worry these details.
Now, there are lefties and liberals and Republicans that actually think that socialism is the best form of govt. That govt is THE answer. Didn't the govt build the atom bomb? Didn't the govt go to the Moon? Etc.
So, if we can go to the Moon, then we can...[fill in the blank]. And therefore, the war on poverty and the war on drugs, and the war on whatever- and of course they have all been disasters.
And of course, the recent roots of this is Nazi Germany and the Soviets- and of course these fellows were just *so* impressive.
The Soviets actually went to the space by using competition and "capitalist" production techniques. The Soyuz is more Ford Motors then anything else and nothing to do with Lenin.
None of these socialist things have ever worked- but who cares, for some that everyone gets poorer is a feature, not a bug.
Meanwhile, politicians says and do whatever people want them to do, though all the corruption involved is something they are doing without any public prompting- other than small detail of the public handing them unlimited power.
