Yes, around 1967, I heard this too in school: Israel was the garden of the Middle East.
HOWEVER:
Lebanon was too and both countries are ideally located for irrigation and greening of the deserts.
When I went on vacation to Israel between june 23 and august 8 1979, I saw many desert areas within Israel. Once you do a few kilometers inland....it's sand.
Many Arab Emirats with their oil have now built luxurious cities in the Middle East, with lots of vegetation.
When you are being occupied by force by another language, culture, religion, country, it's human to want to get rid of it.
Obviously, Israel seems perfectly happy with the current no peace situation, as the US won't discourage it.
Meanwhile, other human beings get revolted and are ready to pay with their own lives a strike against the oppressor. They have the element of surprise while Israel has force.
Who's the most courageous?
