I wasn't sure about the guy, but the local used book store had his book, "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" for $1. I bought it and eventually read it.
The book was written as the result of a grant he got to teach a seminar at Harvard. Something like 13 graduate students signed up. The project they took on was to fact-check Coulter, O'Reilly, Hannity and a number of other Conservative commentators. The book is the story of fact-checking and confronting the Conservatives with the lies they had spread.
It was well-written, informative, interesting and definitely the product of a person who is capable of being a US Senator. One of the better ones, really. It's a bit like being a very good artist who is forever identified with cartoons he has drawn, or a very good composer/musician who gets stuck with a viral video playing a recorder at a party.
The reaction of the Conservatives was interesting. Usually they went on telling the same untruths, with no interest in being honest, just heard.
