Socialism is a political ideology that the US has been involved with throughout its existence. You have been the recipient of its benefits every time you send your child to a public school, send a letter through the post office, enjoy the security our military, police and fire departments provide, or ride on interstate highways. Newsweek was absolutely spot on but they left something out. We are all socialists but we have been since the earliest days of our Republic. If you read the article, they basically say we're headed towards the European mixed model where our social spending becomes a greater part of our GDP somewhere in the 40% realm. Those countries are hardly true communist regimes.
Communism is the extreme of socialism and every implementation of it has bastardized the original philosophy and moved into authoritarianism.
Keep up calling people in this country communists. It worked out so well during the McCarthy era. Oh, I forgot. That was your favorite time.
