So where was all the conservative outrage when...

Bush went from a $300B surplus to an $800B deficit? When Bush spent essentially the same amount on the Iraq war as this bill advocates? When Bush did not use a single veto for SIX YEARS until the Dems won the congress in 2006?

The GOP and their mouthpieces (where ever they may be!) are hypocrits. Cut the holier than thou outrage over "deficit spending" and show a little intellectual honesty. You guys had your 8 year spending orgy. Now it's time to get this country back on its feet. Once that is accomplished then we can talk about deficit reduction ala the 1990s.

On an historical footnote, even the deficits we are now facing are still not as large in real terms as the deficit spending during WWII (or the level of deficits we had in the 19th century). Economic growth made those deficits essentially meaningless in a couple decades. That's the key, getting the economy growing again. Without that we will certainly have even higher deficits than this spending is producing. We're damned if we do something and damned if we don't, but if we do something we can hopefully get the confidence back in the economy and the future, if we don't we are looking at economic contraction and all its awful consequences.
