I know we've been around and around about this before a few times Bowz, and I appreciate what you know and those you've counselled. They are definately a tough bunch. I would liken to think that a good 90%+ of all addicts have psychological problems to begin with and are using the drugs to relieve their weaknesses, or psychological pain. I don't believe you can cure a user by just taking him off the drug. He needs to understand WHY he's doing it in the first place.
To me, there's a great divide between the occasional user and the addict.

I can take or leave alcohol, yet I have known and loved two men who succumbed to alcoholism. They were smart, sensitive and independent. And they were covering for abuses from their childhood. Seeing I was young like they were, to some degree I got to watch their descent into alcoholism when they refused to admit there was a problem, or even begin to seek help for it. I saw stoners when I was younger as well, and most cleared their heads themselves and went on to be productive members of society.

>"Because it is so subtle and appeals to many reasonably functional people I regard it as the most dangerous drug out there."

Most "reasonably functional people" don't ....and won't become "addicted" to it.
You are painting with a broad brush here. See my observation on psychological problems.

>"And every one of them thinks they are just a little bit smarter than anyone else."

Both alcoholics I know feel the same way. And I can tell you, alcoholism is a much more dangerous drug than marijuana. And it's legal.
