Well, there's one way that will work for sure.

Do what the Conservatives say they want. Simply stop trying to mitigate or repair the damage, and let the economy flounder around for itself and let the free market do its work. That will work, but it won't be pretty. There will be massive dislocation, maybe even violence, but eventually things will settle down to a new equilibrium, the economy will start to grow again and we will ease into a new era of relative prosperity. Of course, that will never happen because the Left won't let it, and because even the Right knows they are not fully protected from the consequences.

Of course, the process will start all over again, while the most affluent will emerge relatively unscathed and the lower economic levels of society will take a pounding, and grow in numbers as well. In a few years we'll be right where we are now, all over again. That's how it was done up to the 30s. Boom-and-bust, the business cycle, as if giving it a fancy name made it a fundamental law of physics.

Of course, the Conservatives SAY they want a strict laissez-faire economics, but we all know better. What they want is an arrangement that will negatively affect them as little as possible, even if someone else has to pay the piper, and someone usually does because they have a political clout way out of proportion to their numbers, and they have bribed their lackeys in the middle class handsomely by promising them what you and I know now they can never deliver.

People are the same all over, the Liberals want something for nothing, and they obscure it with all kinds of talk about economic justice and fairness, and they bribe their lackeys with social welfare programs. The Conservatives are no different, they cover up their scam with all this pious humbug about economic liberty and free enterprise. What we need to do is to take one from column A and one from column B and forge some kind of synthesis that combines the best of both philosophies.

Right now, we need to find some way of repairing the damage and putting things back on track without simply letting the well-off retreat into their gated communities so they can toast their security teams and barbecue their ribs while our cities burn.
