Books? Where you're going, you don't need books...

I too am (re)embarking upon a journey into Linux...Ubuntu, to be specific. I'm finding the documentation on the official site is excellent. There's a section just for Windows users.

Here's a rundown of Linux commands. And another. And a third. There's no end to them.

But if you just must have a book...you can find them for free online too, of course.

My feeling is that learning about a free OS and open-source tech should probably be free as well. (Ok, I've bent my own rule a bit by buying a couple of books about Ruby. So sue me.)

BTW, for any Windows user who's curious about Linux, but timid about installing another OS, there's Wubi, which makes it even easier to create a dual-boot system, and will allow you to cleanly uninstall Ubuntu with a single click, should you change your mind. You won't have to bother reclaiming a partition, none is required. (But don't be fooled, Wubi creates a legitimate Ubuntu install, not a bastardized "Linux under Windows".)
