I've been defending your boys and their bonus against the torch-and-pitchfork waving mob on this thread and you say I'm falling for something?

I think the punitive methods being suggested here are unfair and almost certainly illegal and immoral because they reek of vigilantiism and vengeance, not justice. I've even refrained from attacking the bonuses themselves because I've given them the benefit of a doubt and felt that they were not concocted as a way of looting a sinking company before the word got out (like Madoff stashing his plunder in offshore accounts and safety deposit boxes to protect it from confiscation); although I reserve the right to withold final judgement on that until all the facts are in.

Pay attention, I don't agree with how these people are going to be punished, it's probably not fair to them or to others who may be affected in the future by hastily-set precedents. But I stand by my assessment that promising attaboy bonuses (and golden parachutes!)before a job is finished is simply a way of taking care of members of your class at the expense of all those who are not members. This is class warfare, and this is a perfect example of what we are talking about when we say "capitalist class".

As for Dodd, I hope he gets burned if anything can be pinned on him. But that's a topic for a different thread altogether.
