Actually, your analogy is accurate when you compare the New Zonetnm, its regulars and their behavior to the folks found in a biker bar. The inebriated, partially inebriated, addicts & former addicts of all kinds, anti-semites and unhappy folks drowning their sorrows among birds of a feather.
I'm the guy who remembers the establishment when it was the Player's Club and Mark Twain and Nikola Tesla were chatting in one corner with a group of bankers, entrepreneurs, merchants and other thinkers who were providing delightful conversations that everyone wanted to participate in and enjoy.
I now just stop by to reminisce and see, out of morbid curiosity, how the same building can be so transformed by its new patrons, while I try to find the new address of the Player's Club. The new place caters to a vastly different clientele, one that can't stand to see the members of the old club hanging around making them feel uncomfortable in their own skin.
I now understand my grandmother, who lives in a neighborhood that over 30 years ago had already went from upscale city neighborhood to an urban ghetto. She refuses to move away, because she remembers it when and its the memories that hold her.
It's fairly obvious TB and myself have outstayed our welcome. I'm sure everyone here realizes that as well. Don't worry, someday we'll find the new address of the Player's Club and will gladly leave the new biker bar to you regulars, where you can set fire to, and pee on, all the folks you want to without the irritation of doing so in front of some sober folks who disapprove of your actions.
