re: May 5, 1961 Where Were You?
I wasn't here to witness Al's first great feat to space, but to finally see Alan Shepard walk on the moon means a great deal. Be it because I wasn't here to witness his first flight (I was only about three!) or because he endured to make it to that great step to the moon. I can't explain it, but he and the space program did a great thing.
Apollo 14 made up for a lot of things and I'm sure it did for Mr. Shepard as well. I was on his side when he made the 'cut' to go to the moon. Playing golf on the moon was just an a-side.
He faught adversity and then some.
(That's why he will always be my favorite astronaut.
