No he did not

There was no "hole" that Shepard sunk his ball into, he missed on the
first few swings, and his shot did not go anywhere near a mile let alone
many of them.

It was a stunt, pure and simple, and sadly that is what got more focus
(especially a lot of anger by the public wanting to know why their tax
dollars were being wasted on letting astronauts play golf on the Moon)
than anything else about this mission.

I am sure I will hear about it for dumping cold water on this hero worship,
but Apollo 14 was one of the poorer manned lunar missions in terms of
surface science return. Shepard and Ed Mitchell - the man who very
recently
claimed the US government is hiding evidence of alien life from the public -
wasted a good deal of the lunar EVA time looking for their ultimate
planned goal, Cone Crater. They never found it, though they ended up
not being very far away from the crater.

I could say more, but I won't.
